Dr. Rise' Martin Named 2012 Dentist of the Year!

San Antonio - (September 15, 2012) - Dr. Rise' Martin has been awarded the 2012 Dentist of the Year Award by the Texas Academy of General Dentistry (TAGD). It is considered one of the most prestigious honors a Texas dentist can earn.

Dr. Martin was one of only fifteen dentists nominated for this year's award. She and the other nominees were honored at a special night of celebration on Friday, September 14, at the 2012 Texas Dentist of the Year Gala during TAGD's annual Lone Star Dental Conference in Austin which celebrates dentists throughout the state who exhibit a commitment to continuing dental education, service to the community and activism in the dental profession. Each nominee was recognized and received an engraved plaque. The Gala concluded with the announcement of the 2012 Texas Dentist of the Year and the presentation of the trophy to winner Dr. Rise' Martin and a proclamation in her name signed by Governor Rick Perry. Dr. Martin was nominated by the San Antonio District Dental Society.

Dr. Martin is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She held the position of President of the Texas Section 7th International College of Dentists in 2010. She has organized the Great Expectations Mentoring Program at the UTHSC Dental School in San Antonio and matches each new freshman class of dental students each year with senior dental students, faculty members and local dentists who remain with the students throughout their four years of dental school, earning her a coveted Golden Apple Award from the American Dental Association presented to her in 2011 by Dr. Raymond Gist, ADA President. 



Dr. Martin was president of the San Antonio District Dental Society 2008-2009 and continues to provide leadership and mentorship. She is described by her peers as a passionate and outstanding dentist who has an admirable dedication to volunteerism. She actively participates in Dental Missions Trips, Smiles on Wheels, Texas Mission of Mercy - all in addition to maintaining her private practice in Lakehills, TX.

The Texas Academy of General Dentistry is the second largest dental organization in Texas. Its nearly 2,700 members are dedicated to continuing dental education in general practice. To earn a nomination by a local AGD component or local dental society, a dentist must demonstrate dedication to the profession, service to the community, dental school involvement, and a clear vision for the future of dentistry. 



The 2011 Texas Dentist of the Year award was claimed by San Antonio dentist Dr. Warren Branch also a San Antonio District Dental Society past president.

AAWD Honors Dr. Rise' Martin with the 2014 Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award

Dr. Rise' Martin of Lakehills, TX has been named the recipient of the 2014 Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award by the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD).

This is the highest honor that the AAWD bestows upon a woman dentist member and recognizes significant service to dentistry on the basis of achievement in civic, cultural, humanitarian and academic areas. It honors women who promote a positive image for women in dentistry and those who help to advance AAWD's mission to be the recognized resource for connecting and enriching lives of women dentists.

Dr. Martin was nominated by beloved Past President Dr. Jane Selbe. After Dr. Selbe died in March, Dr. Martin's nomination was seconded by Immediate past President Dr. Mary Beth Aichelmenn-Reidy. 

Dr. Martin's contributions to AAWD, the dental industry and her community at large are too numerous to list, but we've highlighted some of our favorites below.

Dr. Martin graduated with a DDS degree from UTHSCSA and joined the faculty in 1993 where she stayed on until 2003. In 2001, she started her own practice in Lakehllls, TX where she has been an active member of the community, serving as a Mission Dentist for the past 20 years; serving the community as a Lay Minister of the Methodist Church and volunteering at the local food bank and homeowners association.

She has served the dental community well, from 1997 - 2005 she served on the AAWD's Executive Board, serving as President for a 2-year term (2000 and 2001). She served as President of AAWD's 501-c-3 Foundation, Smiles for Success, from 2004-2009 and continues to donate dental work to patients whenever called upon.

Dr. Martin has been recognized for her efforts by her peers through various organization for her efforts:

In 2008 she was elected and inducted into Pierre Fauchard Academy;

In 2010 she was presented with the Texas Dental Association Goodfellow Award;  

In 2011, the American Dental Association presented Dr. Martin with the Golden Apple Award for Leadership;

and in 2012 the Texas Academy of General Dentistry named Dr. Martin " Dentist of the Year."

She currently holds membership in the International College of Dentistry, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society, Delta Mu Delta, National Honor Society-Bus. Admin., Our Lady of the Lake Alumni Association, American College of Dentistry, Christian Medical/Dental Association, AGD, TAGD, ADA, TDA, SADDS, UTHSCDSSA Alumni, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Women Dentists.

This year she is serving as Local Chair for ADA-2014 America's Dental Meeting, which AAWD is proud to partner with in 2014. Please join us for our 2014 Annual Meeting "AAWD - Leading the Future of Dentistry" in the Lila Cockrell Theatre on Thursday, October 9, 2014, when Dr. Rise' Martin will be on hand to accept her much-deserved award.

Hermann Sons Honors Dr. Rise' Martin With Humanitarian Award
The Bandera Lodge Hermann Sons has honored Dr. Rise' Martin with the Humanitarian Award at a party that was held at the Lakehills Civic Center in December.  Dr. Martin is very active in her dental profession and in the community in Bandera County.

Other awards that Dr. Martin has received are: American Dental Association award for leadership known as the Golden Apple, The San Antonio District Dental Society Presidential Award, The Texas Academy of General Dentistry - Dentist Of The Year, and also the Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award American Association of Woman Dentists.  Dr. Martin has served as local chairman for the 2014 ADA convention in San Antonio.  Dr. Martin has been a past president of the International College of Dentistry in Texas and the San Antonio District Dental Society Leadership Committee chairman, and she has also been a delegate to the Texas Dental Association in October 2014.

She is very active the Boys and Girls clubs of Bandera County. She is a member of the Lakehills United Methodist Church.  A spokesman for the Herman Sons said,"Dr. Martin's dedication to serving her fellow brothers and sisters in her community illustrates that she is a true fraternalist.."  Congratulations to Dr. Rise' Martin for another deserving award.
